This cookie banner is a true design standout, going above and beyond the cookie banner norm.

It rocks an all-black background with playfully rounded corners, inside a modern rectangular frame. And for that extra sprinkle of goodness, a quirky yellow circle takes the spotlight as the “Ok” button.

When users choose to delve deeper before giving their cookie consent (a GDPR necessity), a striking all-white modal outlined by a hairline black line takes center stage.

Here, the cookie consent banner uses contrast and color theory effectively with its use of red and blue circles, drawing the user’s attention to the calls-to-action. The blue “ok, I want to!” button stands out for its welcoming hue, which might positively influence the user’s decision to consent. In contrast, the red “no, thank you!” button uses a color that’s typically associated with stop signals and warnings, potentially stopping users from clicking it. This subtly coaxes users toward the consent option.

Here’s the pièce de résistance; the telltale signs of the golden rectangle are at play—a ratio found in nature and commonly used in art for its aesthetically pleasing effects. Though, its not a stretch to interpret that the elements are arranged as a nod to the rule of thirds, a simplified version of the golden ratio is what we see here. The balance between the text block and the CTAs are asymmetrical, which adds a dynamic interest too.

Even more, the relative sizing of the elements does well to balance the visual weight across the modal, a principle related to the golden rectangle, where the ratio of the larger part to the smaller part is the same as the ratio of the whole to the larger part. The large text block occupies a significant portion of the space, balanced against the visual impact of the colorful calls-to-action.

While the connection to the golden rectangle isn’t explicit, the overall layout seems to strive for a harmonious division of space that facilitates a clear user journey from information gathering to decision-making. Finally, It would be a design crime to overlook the fact that these buttons are elliptical, playfully mirroring the shape of a cookie.

The banner’s design appears to prioritize functionality and user experience, ensuring that the CTAs are prominently displayed and the information is accessible. These design elements are a tour de force in cookie consent design.
